Chamomile Tea: Get De-Stressed

chamomile flowers

Health Benefits

Chamomile tea is a stress-buster. We've all been stressed, and we know how to tell when things begin to get overwhelming: stomach aches and headaches. Some people have only one or the other, and some unfortunately have to deal with both.

If you are feeling anxious and suffering from aches and pains, this little flower wants to help calm you down and soothe your soul. It helps with digestion and digestive conditions, and also targets ulcers and other stomach conditions caused by anxiety. For women, it calms menstrual cramps.

If you are so stressed that you can't sleep well, this tea is a traditional remedy for insomnia. It is excellent for helping babies and children to become more calm and also to help them sleep when they can't. One funny thing about this herb, however, is that even though it helps us sleep, you can still drink it throughout the day and be productive and energetic, and you don't have to worry about driving - you can do that too.

How to Brew and Drink

If you are brewing loose flowers, use two teaspoons per cup. Bring water to a boil and pour over the diffuser or loose tea. Steep covered for about 5 - 10 minutes.

This tea is often served with honey and lemon, but you can experiment with other flavors. I enjoy a little bit of orange peel in this tea. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Other Uses

Chamomile is good for your skin if you have a rash or sunburn. Try pouring several cups of cooled tea into a running bath. It will be calming for your skin and smell nice too. You can also use it as a poultice, taking care to make sure it is cool enough to touch your skin.
